Of the 20,000 different species of bee only 7 are honey bees, these are social bees
living in colonies in hives containing up to 80,000 bees. They collect nectar from
flowers and trees and turn it into honey and wax. In the process of collecting nectar
they pollinate the plants, trees, flowers and agricultural crops they visit. They
are not aggressive but will defend the hive and their honey. When a bee stings it
releases a chemical smell that alerts other bees to danger and encourages them to
sting. A sting is painful, a few people are allergic to bee venom which can lead
to anaphalaxis, a serious life threatening reaction. Leave bees alone, call Bucks
Pest Control who will deal with any situation safely.
Bees swarm in spring and early summer, it is their way of making new colonies. A
swarm may settle on a branch, a fence anywhere they fancy. They might stay there
for several days while they search for a new home. Bucks Pest Control can collect
swarms and rehive them.
